If for whatever reason you don't decide to hire a car, getting around the south west coast of Tenerife is fairly easy by public transport. A very reliable bus service is operated by the Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife throughout all of island, with their Linea 472 route running a daily service from Los Cristianos to Callao Salvaje, passing through the resorts of Playa de las Americas and Torviscas enroute. The journey into Playa de las Americas is very reasonable at around 1.5€ each way, when compared to an average cost of 10€ for the same trip by taxi.
For the more adventurous, or those visitors wishing to explore a little further afield, the Transportes Interurbanos de Tenerife Linea 473 route then also runs between Las Galletas/Costa del Silencio and Puerto Santiago/Los Gigantes. Although it has to be said that this route is only for the very brave or experienced traveller.
