Being one of the newest resort destinations on Lanzarote, that as far as we are aware doesn't as yet feature in any of the major tour operators summer or winter sun brochures, there are realistically only two practical options available for the resort transfer into Puerto Calero. The first, and possibly the most convenient option, would certainly be the door to door service offered by any of the numerous taxis waiting outside of the arrivals hall, who would typically charge around 12€ for the journey. Taxis on Lanzarote do represent very good value for money by European standards, and can instantly be recognised as being the eggshell/white cars with a large red stripe on each front door. However, a standard taxi on the island is only licenced to carry a maximum of 4 passengers plus a "reasonable" amount of luggage, so for larger groups of travellers, or those with special needs, it is our recommendation to make provision for a pre-booked taxi to be waiting for you at the airport, and clearly specify at the time of booking that a larger, or specially adapted, vehicle is needed for the journey.

The second option would be to pre-arrange for the collection of a hire car from one of the numerous agencies based at the airport. Driving south to Puerto Calero should be fairly stressless for most drivers, once you have remembered which side of the road to drive on, as you leave the airport facility you will automatically join the LZ2, the Carretera de Arrecife de Yaiza, at which point you need to head south west towards Tias. Once past Tias you then need to keep a very sharp lookout for the poorly marked Puerto Calero junction, which will then take you all the way into the centre of the resort. Whatever method of transport you ultimately decide upon for this journey, once you have settled into your chosen accommodation and have had the opportunity to explore beyond the hotel grounds, you will very quickly realise that the focal point of the resort is undoubtedly the impressive Puerto Calero Marina which provides secure moorings for 420 vessels up to a maximum length of 75 metres, and along with the Marina Rubicon development in nearby Playa Blanca, claims to be "the best in the Canary Islands".

Construction of the marina began almost 25 years ago now when the developer José Calero first recognised the potential of this part of south east Lanzarote, and formed Puerto Calero sa with the intention of creating an exclusive development of a marina, residential area and golf course. Whilst the dream of a golf course has yet to be fully realised, we recognise that the bureaucratic processes necessary to approve this type of project are notoriously slow throughout all of Spain, and it may be many years before visitors to this area of Lanzarote actually get to play the greens on this course.

On the negative side, something this resort does really lack is a beach, although if you are prepared to travel out of the town, you will find an excellent beach 2km at nearby Puerto del Carmen. However, for most visitors to Puerto Calero the lack of a beach isn't really a great problem, preferring instead the sand-free environment of their hotel pool.
